Mix Up Summer: Canadian Edition
OverviewMix Up Summer is a conceptual campaign for Absolut Vodka that explores how the brand can own the energy of spontaneous summer social culture. The work positions Absolut as the spark behind unexpected connection, creative expression, and shared moments during peak summer experiences.
The Problem
Summer alcohol advertising is often visually loud but conceptually interchangeable. Many campaigns rely on generic tropes of nightlife, beaches, and partying without a distinct idea or visual system behind them. The challenge was to create a campaign for Absolut that felt unmistakably ownable, while still capturing the unpredictability and energy of summer social life.
The Idea
The concept behind Mix Up Summer was to reflect the “mixing” of people, moments, and experiences that define summer. Rather than portraying a single narrative, the campaign builds a fragmented but connected visual world—where colour, composition, and energy collide in unexpected ways, mirroring the spontaneity of real social moments.
My Role as Art Director
As Art Director, I developed the overall visual direction and campaign system, focusing on how the idea could translate across multiple formats while maintaining consistency and impact. This included establishing the colour palette, composition style, and graphic layering approach that defines the campaign’s visual identity.
The Solution
I created a flexible visual system built around bold contrast, layered imagery, and dynamic composition. This allowed the campaign to scale across key visuals, social assets, and out-of-home placements while maintaining a cohesive look and feel. Each execution was designed to feel like a moment within a larger summer “mix,” rather than a standalone asset, reinforcing the central idea of spontaneity and connection.
